Autocratic Theocrat
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under the Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman is one example of this ideology in practice. Political parties are banned, and there are no national elections for legislative bodies. Power is concentrated in the royal family, and freedoms of speech, assembly, and religion are severely curtailed. The Saudi economy is dominated by oil (via the giant state-run enterprise Saudi Aramco). While the government exerts heavy control over this key sector and provides massive welfare and subsidies to citizens, there is also a growing private sector, foreign investment, and attempts at diversification (Vision 2030).
What it believes
Legitimate authority descends from God, not from voters: one ruler, one faith, law as applied scripture, and obedience as a religious duty. The state's purpose is not prosperity or liberty but the salvation of its subjects.
The appeal
It answers the question every secular regime dodges — why should power be obeyed? — with the oldest answer there is. In societies where faith organizes daily life, aligning law with belief reads as integrity, not oppression.
Where it breaks
A state that speaks for God cannot admit error, so correction only arrives as heresy, schism, or collapse. Clerical hierarchies prove exactly as corruptible as secular ones — but with an unfalsifiable alibi.
