Paleo-Libertarian
Murray Rothbard and Lew Rockwell were key figures in Paleo-Libertarianism, promoting near-total economic freedom while emphasizing family and community traditions. Rothbard's anarcho-capitalism called for privatized security and legal systems, while Rockwell integrated cultural conservatism into libertarian principles. Their ideas reject government intervention in both markets and personal life but favor traditional authorities in maintaining social order.
What it believes
Liberty grown from tradition, not against it: radically minimal government, hard money, and free association — including the freedom of rooted communities to keep their character, their borders, and their own counsel.
The appeal
It courts the voter libertarians otherwise lose: culturally conservative, government-distrusting, localist. 'Leave us alone' — as a whole way of life rather than a policy — is a genuine and durable constituency.
Where it breaks
'Free association' has carried heavy cargo: the paleo strategy's flirtations with the racist right stained the label, and community self-definition without exit rights becomes soft coercion of everyone born inside.
