Objectivist
Ayn Rand's philosophy of Objectivism champions individual rights, free-market capitalism, and limited government. In 'The Virtue of Selfishness' and 'Atlas Shrugged,' she argues for a society where government exists only to protect private property and enforce contracts. Objectivism rejects collectivism, advocating for personal responsibility and rational self-interest as moral imperatives.
What it believes
Reason, egoism, capitalism — a closed philosophical system: reality is objective, self-interest is virtue, altruism is a con, and laissez-faire capitalism is the only social order consistent with man's nature as a rational being.
The appeal
It offers what no other cell does: a complete morality in which ambition needs no apology — catnip to builders, founders, and adolescents of all ages. Rand's novels recruit more capitalists than any economics department.
Where it breaks
The system's closure is its flaw: a philosophy that cannot metabolize dependency, luck, or love without calling them errors describes no actual human life, and the movement's history of schisms over orthodoxy parodies the reason it preaches.
Among its neighbours
The Classical Liberal two rows up built the same market case without the metaphysics. The Geoanarchist beside it taxes the land Rand's homesteaders claimed outright. The Crypto-Anarchist to its market side replaces the philosophy with mathematics and ships code instead of novels.
