Ferdinand Marcos's Philippines (post-1972 martial law) maintained a pro-business environment while using nationalist rhetoric to justify repression of opposition. Marcos tolerated foreign investment but limited land reform and allowed corruption. Chiang Kai-shek's Taiwan (1950s–1970s) followed a similar path, prioritising economic development and national unity under martial law, suppressing political dissent while fostering capitalist growth.
