India under Indira Gandhi (especially during the Emergency, 1975–1977) demonstrates Social Liberalism in action. While promoting nationalised banks and welfare programs, Gandhi also imposed an authoritarian crackdown—suspending civil liberties, censoring media, and imprisoning opposition figures. Although repressive, it did not reach full-scale totalitarianism, remaining within an illiberal democratic framework.
